What your customers can bring to your brand.

Make room for the people using your product to tell their own stories.

Condensed editorial edition · Based on the original Octobytes article by Urey Mutuale
01

Look beyond the brand’s own voice

A business can explain what it offers. Its customers can describe what using it is actually like. Photos, thoughtful reviews, and specific accounts of an experience can add a different perspective to a website or product page.

02

Ask for a story, not a slogan

A useful customer story names a situation, explains what happened, and describes the result in the customer’s own words. Invite specific feedback instead of suggesting praise. Keep the context intact and ask permission before republishing someone’s words or images.

03

Put the story where it helps

A relevant example belongs near the decision it supports. That might be a product page, a case study, or a service description. A small selection of useful stories is easier to understand than an unfiltered wall of social content.

04

Keep listening

Customer contributions are also feedback. Questions, confusion, and recurring suggestions can point to improvements in the product itself. Review the material regularly, keep it accurate, and make it easy for people to ask for a correction or removal.
